Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wayfarer?

Wayfarer exists to spread the love of God to all who are willing to receive it. We seek to share the gospel in a unique and engaging way, through the voices of the men and women who lived it. Biblical figures like David, Elijah, Esther, Paul, and many others tell their stories in first person, grounded in Scripture and enriched with historical detail that further demonstrates the Bible's accuracy and reliability.

Stories are organized by what you're going through (depression, anxiety, grief, anger, pride, lust, addiction, courage, joy, and more) so the right companion meets you at the right time. The app also includes daily mood-matched prayer and companion reflections, journaling, and a journey through the Bible told by those who lived it.

Our goal is to teach, encourage, and provide pastoral care, support, and prayer for anyone, wherever they are in their walk with God.

Is Wayfarer free?

Yes. The core experience is free forever. This includes daily mood-matched prayer and companion reflections, "The Whole Story" journey (23 excerpts across the entire Bible), select Armory stories, streaks, journaling, and pastoral care support. No ads. No data selling. Premium unlocks the full Armory library (140+ stories across all themes) and future premium journeys.

What Bible translation does Wayfarer use?

Wayfarer primarily uses the World English Bible (WEB), a modern English translation in the public domain. Some excerpts include quotations from the ESV and NIV, used within the guidelines of their respective publishers. All Scripture references are attributed within the app.

Why isn't Jesus listed as a companion?

Because He is not one voice among many. He is the voice behind all of them. Every companion's story points to Him. His words appear throughout the app in Divine Voice cards, and the Christ Connections in The Whole Story journey reveal how every narrative thread leads to the cross.

We chose not to place Jesus alongside the people He created, called, and redeemed. His role in the story is not that of a character. He is the author of it.

What denomination is Wayfarer?

Wayfarer is non-denominational. We don't teach a specific theological system. The app retells the stories of Scripture through the voices of the people who lived them and lets God's word speak for itself. Christians from any tradition should feel at home here.

Does Wayfarer replace reading the Bible?

No. Wayfarer is designed to support your reading of Scripture, not replace it. Every story is rooted in the biblical text, and every excerpt includes the original verse references so you can open your Bible and read the passage yourself.

We recommend reading Scripture alongside the app. Wayfarer is one way to experience the stories more deeply, through the voices of the people who lived them, but it is always meant to point you back to the Word.

How do companions work?

Each companion is a real person from the Bible who speaks in first person. For example, David talks about writing the Psalms while running from Saul. Elijah describes wanting to die after his greatest victory. Their stories are organized by life theme, so if you're struggling with depression, you'll hear from companions who have been there. Every excerpt includes the companion's story, a Scripture passage, a divine voice section (God speaking through Scripture), and response paths with practical prompts for reflection and prayer.

How much does Premium cost?

Premium is $39.99/year (approximately $3.33/month) with a 7-day free trial. This unlocks every companion narrative, all Armory themes, all response paths, and premium journeys. You can start free and upgrade whenever you're ready.
